I really don't know what's up with the e-mail I'm sending to the group, I sent one yesterday and it hasn't posted yet. so, now I'll post it through the browser....sorry.. Well, I got to looking a bit closer yesterday at my K-270. I should have done this before I put the tire on the bike, but I guess I was in a hurry. There seems to be a spot on the tire where th bead isn't quite set. It's very very close. It's probably a quarter to a third around the circumferance of the tire on the chain side. It's enough that I notice the tire wobble accordingly when I look at it from behind and spin it. I am seriously tired of taking that wheel off of the bike, I am thinking about putting about 60psi in it to see if the bead will pop the rest of the way. Good idea? Bad idea?

Use liquid dish soap. Let all the air out of the tire. Squirt soap all around the rim between the tire and rim. Then fill it back up. Or you can buy some tire lube.

I had a set of Avon Super Venoms that needed 100psi to seat properly. I didn't lube the bead enough. Ivory or Dove dishwashing liquid works great. Try airing it up and see if the bead seats. Don't go over 80 psi, just to be safe. If that doesn't work, deflate the tire, break the bead all around with a c-clamp (with the tire on the bike, on a stand or milk crate etc), lube the bead of the tire, and re-inflate it. My IRC GP110 (with a LOT of dishwashing liquid) seated with a hand pump at maybe 20 psi. Devon A15 Calis wrote:

I think it needs soapy water to help seat it. Pressure alone probably will not. They say it is bad to go too high on the pressure for the tire. Wear safety glasses... I once saw/heard a bicycle tire explode at a gas station. Sounded like and M-80. Steve G --- In DSN_klr650@y..., "Calis" wrote

Bad idea? >> The K270's have a very stiff bead and can be a little hard to set. I use tire lube, pump it up to 60+ lbs and then set it in the sun for a while. The bead will slowly pop out but it can take a little time. Kurt Grife

go for it. i do that to seat the bead when i put a tire on. 60psi is about as high as i dare go though. sometimes takes inflation and then bouncing the tire hard on the concrete to make it seat. good luck.
