Ok, so I am carb challenged. Anyone have any pics, or detailed instructions on how to get to the pilot screw with the carb still mounted? Mine is out 3 1/2 turns, but I think it is too much. I want to try it at 2 1/2. How do you go about doing this, and is there any special tools needed? Thanks. Jeff A15

Your's is out 3 1/2 turns ? How do you know that ? Use a screw driver, screw all the way in, then out 2 1/2 turns.

if i remember correctly you can loosen up the carb mounts and spin it sideways. also i think i had to drill out some stuff (a cap covering the screw)? _pete (did this three years ago, and haven't got the data in retrievable memory)

I know it's 3 becuase the mechanic who installed the jetting told me that's what the instructions said to do... and he did it.

Hopefully the mecho didn't refit the plug on the access hole for the pilot screw. You could adjust the screw by the recommendations of number of turns out, but I believe that is only a starting point. The last time I set the mixture (some years ago) I adjusted it for highest consistent idle (aka "best idle" in trade talk). Consequently I don't know how many turns it is out in my bike. I may have may have made some minor adjustment after that, based on seat-of-the-pants sensors. Since I don't much altitude riding, this works fine for me. I've adjusted the pilot with the bike running by using a very small screwdriver with a 90deg bend on the end of it. I now have one of those fancy cable-drive 90deg screwdrivers to adjust the quad carbs on my 750 Honda but I have never got around to trying it out. The same kind of tool is used to adjust some car carbs where access is limited. It may be overkill for a KLR, but the tool will certainly earn its keep on the RC17 Honda. Lumir, For me the most important thing that enables me to be comfortable on a bike over long periods is a seat that is wide enough to distribute your wieght over a larger area. It is not so much the foam density as the WIDTH. The stock seat was about 7" in width, too narrow for my fat ass. I have a Corbin now which is much wider, I think about 12" or so. The Corbin's foam is a little hard but the width makes it easy to do 500 mile dirt/road days comfortably. With the stock seat I was hurting at 100 miles. Steve
