My future son-in-law and l leave the 23rd of this month for Loredo. He also has a 2001 KLR 650. I wanted to go a bit later but he starts school shortly after we're scheduled to return. I've been to West Texas numerous times in the summer, and once this year on the KLR. I certainly respect the heat but I'm not afraid of the high temps. Besides, in the mountains the temps should be a bit cooler. The high today in Creel should be in the high 70s. Of course the highs along the coast will be in the mid 90s. The highs near Presidio, TX should be in the mid to upper 90s according to this week's forecast. I'm well aware the temps can reach upwards of 115 in and around Presidio. You're more than welcome to meet us in Loredo on Friday morning, the 24th of this month. We'll be covering mucho miles in a short period of time. Our route isn't written in granite. From: TLrydr@a... I hesitated to do the clutch switch bypass. Hey, mine worked just fine. One day, after adjusting the clutch cable, the bike decided that it would start under ONLY ONE condition: Trans in neutral and clutch NOT pulled. Trevor's 500 mile KLR started doing this last weekend after the first or second crash. Let me tell you, it SUCKS when you have to practice some voodoo and check the alignment of the planets before starting your bike. Especially you're in the middle of an intersection with a stalled engine. Or when you've stalled on a major uphill and you can barely hold the bike still. The bike NEEDS TO CRANK when the goddamn button is pushed. The clutch switch bypass mod should be number one on the list, before the bash plate, the springs, and the new handgrips. RM
