k & n question

I keep reading about how bad the stock plastic bash guard is, but have yet to read of anyone sustaining damage because they didn't replace it with aluminum. Bryan, I recall reading at least one incident of case puncture from rock with the OEM guard. I beleive I read it in the paper version of Dual Sport News. And maybe more than one. And I've put a serious ding im my aluminum one and was glad it was there. jlabate (from Tucson also)

When I lived in Phoenix, my Moose plate took a few shots that dented it serverly. I am pretty sure that the stock plate would not have protected the bike. I guess it depends on where and how you ride. (Lots of BIG rock in AZ). Pat Austin TX

I use just enough oil to color the filter evenly. FYI: I've heard that if you do a lot of offroad riding the K&N isn't for you. I have also experienced this. I was riding in Mexico - Puerto Penasco to El Golfo in loose sand with other bikes so I was breathing quite a bit of dust. (One needs to let the Hondas go ahead now and then or they won't let you ride with them again). On the way back my A14 started popping and missing and using way more gas than it should so I thought it was the bad Mexican gas. When I got home I looked at the K&N filter and it was completely clogged. I put my stock foam filter back in and it runs fine. I have installed the Dynojet stage 2 kit and run a STrapp EAR with 8 discs. I also cut off the top of my airbox. Lance Collier Tucson A14
