cycoactive glovebox

Post by Ric Merry » Sat Oct 07, 2000 10:53 am

I recently got a "GloveBox" from Cycoactive of Seattle. I really like this bag and keep in it mostly stuff I hope to never get out; 1st aid kit, tire repair kit, a few tools, etc. I initially mounted it to the windshield itself as this seemed most convenient. The total height of this bag is approximately the height of the shield. I soon found on washboard roads it leveraged the fairing & shield excessively and would not be a good long term placement. Yesterday I discovered that the black plastic piece inside the fairing, behind the headlight can be adjusted up to provide more support to the windshield and better blocking of stray light from the backside of the headlight at night. I removed the shield and used my Dremel tool to carve back 2 areas of a horizontal ridge just below the level of where the shield meets the fairing. This allows the top mounting hooks of the GloveBox to slip in here between the shield and the fairing with only slight pressure applied to the shield when installing or removing. As a side note I completely removed the fairing to check things out under there and found the bottom center (facing forward) mount screw hopelessly frozen in place and 2 of my 4 front fender bolts loose. I determined the instrument cluster must be of a "floating" variety because although all the mounts seemed tight it still had several millimeters of vertical play. Everything else looked good at 7 plus years and over 15,000 miles. Ric Merry

The listers who've commented have opted to pay a bit more and get first class mail service...bulk mail delivery is a very diiferent deal...The February issue hit the mails a week ago Tuesday. Send me a note off-line when it arrives and comment on the condition. The mailers asked me to try sending it w/o an envelope as they were sure it would not be damaged. I'm skeptical...
