I'm about to change valve shims and would like to know if anyone uses
Loctite or an equivalent product on their cam cap bolts and valve
cover bolts when re-assembling? If so, what specific product? I
remember reading recently about possible incompatibilities with
certain products and metal types.
Also, in Eldon's valve adjustment instructions he says in step
17: "After torquing down the valve cover, replace the cam chain
tensioner spring, washer and cap". Does he mean to literally replace
these components with new ones or simply re-install the originals? I
can't imagine that they need to be thrown out and replaced. Thanks
for any help.

harley vs. bmw vs. kawasaki
Hello all,
I'm new to this list, but not new to motorcycling. Here are my thoughts on
the controversy over brand snobbery. Harleys are OK, but the factory hasn't
really come out with a new model in 50 years, and their riders clog up the
roads because they don't seem to know how to lean. BMW's are OK, but the
current models employ engineering that is, at best, questionable, and their
riders seem to yearn for the time when changes were true improvements.
Kawasaki's are OK, but have always been a little on the industrial side, and
their riders have always wanted better suspension and frames to harness the
power. I've ridden all three in the past, and currently use a BMW K75 when I
want to ride a 1000 in 1, or a R100 G/S when I want to take the back roads.
I'm thinking of adding a KLR because the G/S is far too heavy for serious
off-road fun, and the F650 is way too much money for what you get. Of
course, these are just my opinions, and are, as such, of little value. Hey,
ride what you want, but expect other riders to categorize you based upon
your beliefs. It's those Honda riders we have to look out for!
Regards,
Jim
