After waiting a while, my doorstep was blessed with more unexpected goodies
 yesterday.
I ordered a Stock rear shock, with a progressive 500/560 spring. Mike at
Dual Star installed the spring for me and I am very pleased with the results.
The reason it took so long is that there was a concern over the ID of the
new spring not matching well to the spacers on the stock shock. The
result is that the new shock spring hangs off the spacers and is in less
contact than the original design intent. Mike was waiting on Progressive
to give word about the need for new spacers. Apparently it was deemed
fine, and so I have a new shock.

I think I have a fix for the problem but I'm not willing to tear apart what
Mike has done to try it out just yet. The fix is to make another spacer to
fit over the cast spacer, pretty much like an adapter. This will change
your pre-load a bit, but some experimentation will find out just how much.
The length change between setting #1 and setting #2 might be all that is
effectively eaten up by the new adapters.

I took some photos last night to illustrate the concern. Sorry for the
large file size, but for clarity I had to make it somewhat big. I've sent
two files, one of the pretty new shock, and one showing the close-ups of
the old dirty shock. Too lazy to clean it until I'm ready to tear into it
to find out how it works.

Mr. Carl has inspired me to tear into my old shock to find out how to make
it better. It'll take me a while as my plate is already over-flowing, but
if someone has any insight, I'd love to hear it and talk with you.
