Merv

There's a company here in Melbourne called Pearl Craft Steering
Wheels. Contact address is PO Box 261, Kerrimuir, Victoria, 3129,
Australia, Tel 61 3 9877 8437, Fax 61 3 9877 8436. I suspect that it
is the same company that did my steering wheel some years ago, run by
a Wayne Basinski. The result wasn't concours but reasonable and
definitely better than the original.

As part of my "rolling restoration'" I would like to have my original
steering wheel restored. Can someone recommend a good place here in the US?

Thanks,

Dear Alan:

We recommend that you send your steering wheel to Koch's at 26943 Ruether
Ave., Unit M, Canyon Country, CA 91351, phone 661-2529264, FAX 661-252-2834.
They have restored three wheels for us: 1932 Rolls-Royce 20/25, 1925
Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost and 1937 MG TA Brooklands wheel. All of these wheels
had considerable experiences with the elements and were in horrible shape.
They do excellent work.

Cost for the TA wheel was $225. It is a joy to hold. Give them a call, and,
if they are within your budget, do not hesitate to send them your wheel. Good
luck.

Kindest regards,

Alan & Victoria Campbell

Steering Wheel Restoration

Post by Terry O'Brien » Tue Jul 24, 2001 12:17 pm

I know this has been on before but Yahoo has trashed my access to the
archives and I have ended up travelling in circles trying to get myself
reinstated as a member and not as a guest. Will be the subject of a new
email if Yahoo doesn't reply soon.
Anyway I need the name, telephone number or email of anyone who restores
original steering wheels. The UK is fine as I will be there in about
three weeks and can take it with me and post it from there. My wheel is
the gold/pearl 3 spoke as was used on the EXU'S but the car is not an
EXU. The rim has perished to the the point that the finger indents have
completely eroded but the spokes and hub are fine. Any suggestions.
Thanks Terry

Jim,
Ben Cordson is the right person. He made mine and I'm
pleased with the result.

I too used Backwards Unlimited some years back to do a J2 wheel. I was
extremely pleased with the work and would wholeheartedly recommend them.

steering wheel restoration

Can anyone recommend a specialist to restore an original TC steering wheel -
preferably in the UK. If you have any before and after photos that would be
great.

Thanks, Bill
