Thanks Brian for sharing your thoughfulness with us.? I know that my wife would be happy to throw all my stuff away (even today when last I checked I'm still breathing) and you have reminded me that I need to do some documenting and educating before I "pack it in".

You are correct in applauding Dave Edgar's efforts for?the?Ilene.? He?is a wonderful?example for us?and a great resource for TC lovers.

Hi Guys,
I have just read the TABC Digest 4628 and the entry submitted by
David Elgar on Doug Wimer's TC being for sale. Well done David for advertising
Dougs TC for sale via the list, and giving us some background to the car. Over
the past 10 years I have unfortunately had several MG friends die, and have
volunteered to help the widow and family sell their lost ones car and collection
of spares etc. When one loses someone very close to you it must be a very
emotional time, and the last thing you want to do is have the trauma of selling
your loved ones prized possessions. What is worse is the prospect of some dealer
contacting your widow with an offer to take it all away, sadly usually for a
very low price.

Shortly after I retired a good friend of mine also retired, he had just recently
rebuilt his TC and had got it on the road but still had a number of jobs to
complete. Very sadly he died within a year of retiring (how often do we hear
this!), and left his widow and two teenage sons with a TC that needed a bit of
work to realise its true value. I volunteered to take the car away and keep it
in my garage, finish of the jobs needed to fetch a good price and advertise and
sell the car for them. I did this because of the valued friendship and shared
times my deceased friend and I had had with our T types. I did eventually finish
the car, advertise it with my contact details, let several potential buyers
inspect the car, and when I received what I thought was a sensible offer I
telephoned the widow with the offer and let her speak with the buyer. The car
was sold, the new buyer was happy, and more importantly my friends widow
received a very good price for the car without any trauma and grief often
involved in selling a loved ones car. For my part I enjoyed completing the
outstanding jobs on the car, and was happy to help and ensure that my friends
widow got a good boost to her bank balance to help her out in the coming years,
which for her were going to be difficult. In retur
n my wife and I were treated
to a lovely meal by the widow, and we had a super evening which hopefully
cheered her up a bit and increased my waistline!

A couple of years later I was involved in another similar situation, though this
time a long standing trader friend of the deceased disposed of his two cars for
the widow, and I cleared the garage of his MG parts and sold them for her via
the MG Show at Stoneligh and good old E-Bay...Without this help I am sure most
of the parts would have ended up in a skip and dumped, losing a great deal of
revenue for the widow and losing valuable spares to the MG community.

I know that when I 'pop my clogs' my wife would not know the value of my
squirrels nest of assorted MG spares and memorabilia. I have added an addendum
to my will listing a couple of friends names and telephone numbers who have
agreed with me to help my wife dispose of my treasures! I know she will be in no
fit state to do it herself, and with my kids spread around the world it will not
be easy for them to help out.

Now I now this one is not the most cheerful of listings, but just give it a bit
of thought and maybe identify one or two of your TABC buddies or MG friends who
may be able to help your family out in the future, buy them a pint of Old
Speckled Hen and share your thoughts with them, then add their names to your
will.

Having been a member of the TABC list for many years, I know that the majority
of us are retired and well past middle age, in fact at 63 I may be one of the
younger ones!! Many thanks to David for helping out Ilene Wimer, and jogging my
memory to make me think about writing this note.. Now it's time to go into the
garage and reline the front brake shoes of the old TA, I want to get them well
bedded in before I go to Spain in a few weeks time to tackle the Picos de Europa
National Park... .

Keep smiling, Brian Rainbow TA2551 Leamington Spa, U.K.

Hello Brian,

A very thoughtful post if I may say so and I have to say that similar intimations of mortality have crossed my mind. To this end I have taken appropriate measures to catalogue and identify my spare bits so as to make (God forbid!) disposal less than onerous.

Regards, Lodge in Vancouver

TC for sale

Post by bjoerling@comcast.net » Tue Aug 04, 2009 3:22 am

Group,

With the passing of an old friend, a TC is available. 1948 TC 4249 was recently overhauled by Ragtops and Roadsters in Perkasie, PA and has a regular PA registration (not Antique, Classic or Historic Vehicle). She is roadworthy and has a current inspection sticker. Her condition is best described as original. Asking price around $15,000. L ocated in Philadelphia.

Please contact off list.

TC For Sale

Post by D&J Edgar » Sun Sep 06, 2009 4:16 pm

Greetings all you lovers of TCs and other MGs,

The friend I have that is selling a TC is getting down the the wire. If not
sold by Saturday the TC will go into storage. Do you really want to see
that happen? Of course not. They have also reduced the price to $18,000
OBO. Car located in Carlsbad, California.

Photos and description can be found at:
http://tcmotoringguild.org/ForSale/MathewsTC2.pdf

I have no financial interest in this TC and pass the word on this sale only
to see a TC go to a good home.
