A welded plate is weaker than the original weak rear cover so will probably
break again. Install two 0.100" thick ss re-inforcing plates on the back
of the gearbox and the re-welded original cover will work AOK. Much cheaper
than buying a new re-inforced plate.

It can also break if the engine and gearbox are allowed to move around
excessively due to deteriorated mounts.
