Just saw Phil Marino at the TC Motoring Guild meeting last night. Still
moving a little slow but very active in the mind. He was showing off his
conversion to a small block chevy rear crank seal. Mike Goodman was there
also with his conversion idea and the two of them went on and on
about which was the best way to go. Both looked good by the way. Phil
still takes a cane with him but frequently forgets it when venturing away
from his chair.

It is amazing that there is so much discussion about Phil on this list and
he doesn't have email to read it! Where would we be without Phil and his
great creative parts production? I saw him last week when I brought back his
engine internals from the balance shop. He is still the same old ebullient
Phil but he does tire very easily and after a few minutes of standing, he
needs to sit down. However, this is part of his recovery process and he is
making steady progress. We're hoping he can be at our Motoring Guild tour at
the end of April, but if not he will definitely be at GOF West in San Marcos
CA.
As TATerry said, he may be the Mad Italian, but he is an institution in the
TC world.

Well Phil may not have e-mail but he has the next best thing - Cederstrand
mail. Phil's name has been in quite a few of our messages lately and Carl
Cederstrand printed them out and took them over to Phil to read. Received
a call from Phil today and he wanted to make sure we knew that he was NOT
calming to have designed NOR is making money from the Chevy rear seal
conversion. He read about it in the Vintage MG club newsletter some time
ago and came up with his method of the machine work that he could do in
his own garage and on his own engine. So if we want to give our Italian
Machinist friend a hard time, we will have to find another subject. Oh so
many subjects and so little time. (smile)

WE LOVE YOU PHIL!!!

By the way Phil mentioned at the TC Motoring Guild's meeting that he
thanked everyone for all for the support, prayers and encouragement that
we have all given him. He truly appreaciates it.

Just a quick note..

Back when I first bought my TC I acquired Phil Marino's telephone # From
someone in the Vintage MG Club here in Southern California. ( I think it was
Mr. Siem) I called Phil to try and get some bits from him and he told me he
did not make parts anymore for T types because of his health. (he was very
nice about it) Now this was 5 or 6 years ago! Turns out that was not the
case. It seemed to ME that he ONLY wanted to sell to the guys and gals of
the Vintage MG Club. I came to this conclusion because when I called him
the 1st he asked was if I was in the "Vintage MG Club" (of Southern
California). When I told him "no" he then explained how his health had
prevented him from making any more items for MG's.

Every time I see his name pop up I wonder about this. It seems he will sell
to anyone with a "T" type now...

I have since sold my TC to Dave Spiegel who is keeping her going!

number of bronze water pump impeller blanks from Bill Traill, who used to
make water pumps for our cars, and Phil is machining and selling them. These

phil marino will help an mg guy if he can, but there are some health issues which prevent him from mass marketing parts. he sold off a lot of his tooling etc.
further, he has always been helpful whenever i have called him, and i cannot see any reason to beat him up if he prefers to sell only to his club.
if you want phil's parts, join the vmg club.
it isn't exactly a fortune to do so.

Why would anyone want to "beat Phil up"? Phil has to be a good guy if he
is an MG'r! If you are implying that my e-mail was meant to beat Phil up
you misunderstood it. I was simply making a comment about my experience
with him. Phil can do whatever he wants with the parts he manufactures.
They are his!

If you had read my e-mail completely you would have seen I sold my TC, so I
am no longer in need of any of Phil's parts. Thus, no need to join the VMG
Club as you suggested. (Who are a GREAT bunch by the way!)

There were 2 nice comments made to my e-mail, but yours Ray comes off as a
bit condescending.

Do us a favor next time, and e-mail direct to the person you wish to make a
comment to.. Please don't "bomb the List" ... (like I just did with my
reply to your e-mail)
