Hi Dean,
My TC is chassis # 5221 xpag5925 (April 8, 1948). The body plate
#'s are: Body type B280, Body # 4996 A 31162. These fit in with
the approx 225 difference I see posted on the list.
TC # 5221 was built on the 99th day of 1948 and I was born on the
299th day of 1948 so that makes this TC and its owner exactly 200
numbers apart. I wonder if there are any numbers lower than this?
I look forward to the results you obtain.
Cheers

Well, TC9964 was built in 1949 and I came along in 1959, so that puts us exactly 10 apart......;-}

Just when you thought the thread had ended....on the subject of serial numbers. Clausager's book Essential MGT Series and Prewar Midgets says:
Production period, Sep 1945 to Nov 1949. Chassis numberers prefixed TC. Chassis numbers from TC252 to TC10251(TC251 was a prototype) Total production 10000 cars. (Home Market, 3408 RHD, Export 4497, North American export 2001, of which at least 494 to EXU specifications+ADs- ckd care for Eire 84, chassis 10).
But you want confusion:
TF Series:
Production period, Sep 1953 to Apr 1955. Chassis number prefixed with five character code starting HD (on makers guarantee plate) with +AFw-TF stamped on chassis. Chassis numbers: TF with 1250cc engine, 501 to 6500, 6651 to 6750, 6851 to 6950. (SO MUCH FOR EACH MODEL STARTING WITH 251) TF 1500: 6501 to 6650, 6751 to 6850, 6951 to 10100. (TF 0250 and 0251 were prototypes) Total production: 6200 TFs an 3400 TF 1500s (home market 813 TFs and 244 TF 1500s +ADs- RHD export 1207 TFs and 522 TF 1500. LHD export 420 TFs and 72 TF 1500s, LHD North American export 3746 TFs and 2487 TF 1500s. RHD North American export 2 TF+ADs- RHD chassis 2 TFs, for home market+ADs- RHD CKD cars for Eire 10 TFs+ADs- LHD CKD cars for Mexico, 75 TF 1500s)
Got all that? Now, how do we discover if the LHD 1955 TF 1500, I own+ADs- HDC 46 77227 (according to title but which is impossible) with XPEG 1072 was produced for Mexico (purchased as a used car in New Mexico in 1989) or the USA?
And where did the title bureau get that chassis number? (It doesn't appear on the Bill of Sale) That number makes me think it has been missread and the car is vacationing 20 miles from me at My daughters house, so I can't check right now.
