Important Addendum to Broken Spokes

Post by CFritz7001@aol.com » Mon Mar 13, 2000 8:03 am

Martin,
I left out an important final point in my instructions; sorry. After the
new spoke is in place, and tightened properly, BE SURE TO CUT OFF any
surplus length of spoke which protrudes through the back side of the nipple,
and REMOVE ANY BURRS there which would cut or damage the tube. A "DREMEL"
tool with a cut-off wheel is just the ticket to do this with..
One of the other guys sent me the excellent suggestion to lubricate the
threads on the spoke with a bit of linseed oil, which then hardens a bit with
time, thus keeping the spoke from loosening. (Linseed oil won't harm the
tube.) You could also use one of the high-tech "loctite" products to do this.
Regards,
Carl Fritz
