Another thought on fuel tanks

Post by CFritz7001@aol.com » Fri Jan 28, 2000 5:31 pm

Just had another brain-storm.
Seems to me that one could purchase a "stock" size racing fuel cell of a
size which could be mounted in the space beneath the "floor" of the luggage
area, then linked via a hoses to the existing tank's filler neck and outlet.
"Stock" sizes can be bought from several suppliers at prices as low as about
$200 US. The only obvious drawbacks I can see to this are these:
1) The size of the tank might be quite limited -- there may be only enough
room there to hold a few gallons of fuel. (Anybody happen to know how many
cubic inches there are in a gallon?)
2) One would have to give up the fuel level indicator (That doesn't seem to
be a major sacrifice, judging by all the reports of unstoppable leaks I've
read. BTW, the other two ideas I threw out earlier today would also call for
this "sacrifice")
3) One would have to figure out a way to rig a tube/hose from the cell
through the bodywork to the filler port on the existing tank, or put up with
having a filler port within the passenger area . (That prospect doesn't
thrill me overmuch)

That about does it for me, for now. I'll be interested in hearing reactions
from the list members, but please be gentle; I have been know to bruise
easily, and to hit back, as well!

Carl Fritz

Hi Carl,

Looks like I'm having a busy day on this medium but...
Question..A simple one:
Why not buy a replacement fuel tank they are around $345 in the UK less
when you take off the VAT . I have the supplier who makes to order even
in stainless. A lot easier than all this cell stuff!
I purchased one at Beauliue last year and it is great. You know the
simple way is often the easy way to most problems in the long run.

Regards Geoff
