MG Magazine may be an admirable publication, but the T-ABC list is not the place to advertise it, or any other commercial activity. Mike Card TC/8233

Is it really necessary to have this advertising forced up on us? I for one
will definitely NOT be purchasing a copy, let alone subscribing........

Skip I accept your opinion and agree with your point about rare parts. [I was lucky enough to find a TC steering box bracket today - sounds like a small item, but they are nearly impossible to buy here in UK and my current rebuild is missing one, so I know what you are driving at.] I would also make a distinction between commercial activities and transactions, for-sale / wanted, between list members. Maybe it is not so easy to make that distinction. Certainly I would prefer to know about items for sale than not know. But don't we have a Classified area on the Web-site for advertisements? Could not advertising for magazines etc be placed in the Classifieds? I would be very happy to see them there. Just my opinion, and I only speak for myself, not for the list. Best regards Mike Card

Mike:

I for one dont happen to agree with you. If done in good taste, I myself
dont have any objections. Some folks on this list are looking for parts
etc. Are they not supposed to mention this at any time. What of those who
might have a rare part that would be of iterest to others on this list.
Should they keep it a secret from the listers.
All things of interest regarding "T" types should be talked about on this
list. This is not a religious endevor.

Happy Thanksgiving:

Quite agree - otherwise I'd have advertised my UK MG T and MMM restoration
services long ago!!!

NO seriously!!! - I too do believe the List should remain non commercial in
its postings.

Hi All,
Well I agree in principle on the "commercial activity".
However, where do we draw the line??
I would like to advertise my limited special parts for TA, TB and
TC cars on the T-ABCs Forever and MGs Autox email list. For example, oil
filter spin-on adapters, for TC/early TD, stub axles, Alfin type drums,
tapered halfshafts, rebuilt TC/TD gearbox synchros etc and MG T series art
prints.
I look on this as a service to the members and as an extension of my MG
obsession/hobby. I am certainly not a "commercial activity".
Although my items are listed in the classifieds, I think most members do
not review the classifieds on a regular basis and new members may not be
aware of the classifieds advertisements.
Sooo, I would like to continue to make my products and services known to
T-ABCs and MGs @ autox members by email. Or maybe, I just did??

Bob and Greg, an occasional blurb on items or publications that help us
maintain our hobby is very ok with me....all of us have a delete key and
should use it instead of poping off on the list. I find that much more
offensive that the occasional commercial!! With out you guys, Moss and
Abingdon and the Home country vendors, these little cars would have been
crushed a long time ago.
Happy Holidays, you too Viv,

Bob:
You are not a business. Your "business" is a hobby that provides useful
products to other hobbyists. Whatever profit you make enables other hobbyists
to "profit" from your endeavors. MG Magazine is a commercial entity and should
not be advertising on a private news group.

Terry,

I wasn't sure which side of this debate I was on - but I think you hit
the nail on the head. Well done.

Happy Turkey Day to all the colonists,

I'm not too concerned about MG related ads appearing on the list. Thats
the only way I found out about Bob Grunau's services. Considering how
spread out the list is all over the globe, an MG service that is well
known and in respected in one location may be totally unknown in other
areas. And there is always the delete key.

I am more concerned about the ads that the new server appends to every
email. It gets to be ridiculous when several copies of the ads appear
in replies that quote the original messages. The delete key won't help
here.
