You might want to do a search on "Nicasil"... It was one of BMW's
"nightmare" moments. The E34 ('89 - '95 5 series) 530 and 540 came
with nicasil blocks... The sulfur content of North American fuels
attacked the surface and a few million $$$ worth of blocks were
replaced under warranty... a fact that BMW did not make public...The
replacement was "Alusil" a different compound...
