Nerf Bars

Post by Peter Roberts » Fri Sep 16, 2005 9:00 am

I am fitting a set of nerf bars to the TC and ran into an issue on their
proper mounting.

The cast iron brackets that hold the badge bar to the frame should have
rubber pads, right? Mine do, and it is clear that we thought so when we
restored the car because they are obviously made up from some scrap. I have
checked both Moss and Abingdon and they do not list any such pads. Hmmmm.

Now to the issue, if what was good for the brackets should be added for the
nerf bar attachment? In other words, should there be an additional pad
between the nerf bar and the frame, as well as the pad between the badge bar
bracket and the nerf bar? Or is the one enough?

Ditto for the rear nerf bars, should there be a rubber pad between them and
the frame? Logically, if there was good reason the insert rubber pads at
all of the various attachment places on the car, doesn't it follow that the
same reasoning should be used in attaching the nerf bars?
