16 inch wheels & Radial Tyres

Back in May 2004, I raised the subject of fitting radial to my 16 inch wheels. At the time my TC was running on Firestone 5.50/16 crossplys which were of unknown age. I finally replaced them with Korean Hankook radials 175/75x16. Although I got better steering & braking, the ride was not good & I couldn't get the wheels & tyres balanced, In fact I had a built in vibration at 90-105 KPH. I found out recently that my Hankook's were light truck tyres! That's how my TC was riding, like an unloaded light truck or should I say, more like an unloaded light truck than ever!
The local Pirelli tyre supplier in Sydney (JAX), advised that Pirelli could only supply 16 inch tyres in the light truck range, but could offer CEAT 175/75/16 car tyres. He assured me that the CEAT tyres are made & guaranteed by Pirelli. I had the CEAT tyres fitted this week & bingo, the vibration has gone & the ride is better than I remember with the old crossplys. Bearing in mind that My TC has a Datsun 120 steering box, the car is handling better than ever.

Anybody know if these CEAT 175/75/16" Pirelli tires are available in Canada
or USA? Any other 16" radial recommended for the TC? Thanks.

G'day Ken,

Try the Falken range. Any local tyre dealer in the big smoke should be
up to speed with this brand
A friend is running a set on his TC and swears by them.. not at them.
This particular TC has run in Targa Tasmania and has competed at all 3
Speed On Tweed meetings, so he's not into just poncing around.
Hope this helps.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your comments. It's just that I like Pirelli's after using them on
a couple of Porsches. Also the tyre dealer that I used is close to Bruce
Smith's shop at Normanhurst & I could borrow his hub fitting or tool for
wheel balancing.
