Back in 1978, I got this very helpful information in a letter from our
friend Chip Old, which I am happy to share with you. Point gap and dwell angles
depend on the cam used in your distributor.

Symmetric: 0.12 in. (0,3 mm) gap, 45 + 4 dwell
Asymmetric: 0.12 in. (0,3 mm) gap, 49 + 4 dwell
High Lift: 0.16 in. (0,4 mm) gap, 60 + 4 dwell

The more difficult task, for most of us, is determining which cam you have
in your distributor. The TD/TF Workshop Manual has on page C.12 a good
illustration of the three cam types which is supposed to aid in identification. I'm
sure if you check the mg-tabc archives you can find more information or
others will add suggestions, but for now I think this is a quick answer to your
question.
