Question on the UK BBS For TA Owners

Post by Gene » Tue Jul 26, 2005 5:42 am

Can someone help this guy? R. K. (Bob) Jeffers, New Hampshire, USA, bobj20@adelphia.net Hello to you all --- I usually hang out on the TD/TF BB. But I have had a request to convert a TA Control Box to a real solid-state regulator. I looked at Dick Little's TA box on Saturday and think I can do it. But I need three things, first would be a wiring diagram showing where all the terminals connect to. Second would be a control box to do the first conversion on. Obviously it need not be one that can be put in concourse condition. A few cracks won't bother etc. (Remember I ain't Fort Knox). Third, I need info on the ratings of the original dynamo, a start would be the Lucas model designation. I have some Lucas books that may tell me what the ratings are. If you guys could help me with these things, I think I can put a real regulator in the control box that will control both the voltage and the max current output so that you don't burn up the armature of the dynamo (or the battery). Those two pieces of resistance wire under the box are not what you would call a regulator. Here's hoping, Bob

Bob, That is exactly what I want to do with my TC. I just had my dynamo re-wound after the regulator stuck and burnt it up. I replaced the stuck reg with a new one from Moss which immediately stuck and burnt. Then I got another from Noss which did the same thing. Got a modern one and installed but couldn't figure how to get the dsash ignition light working on the new system so I got a third from Moss and installed it. All is well .... today and for now. I don't trust this thing. I now have a TC and two extra TD carcases for installation of new electrics, love to know how to do it. I found the information you requested and put the diagram up on the web at: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/thorlick/images/TA1.jpg and the specifications up at http://pages.sbcglobal.net/thorlick/images/TA1.jpg Please contact me off list to discuss my project.
