Hey Chip (& guyz): digitaldon (also a wood boat fanatic), is not sure that pentachlorophenol is more effective than copper napthanate (active ingredient of # 10 green Cuprinol, & also the clear, he believes). The absolute best fungicide was (still is) tris tributyl tin, which in the old days we routinely put in all our paints ourselves, maybe 2% or so, but this is no longer permitted by the Man to be possessed by anyone. Nowadays, as the best available alternative, digitaldon routinely drenches all structural wood (not brightwork, of course), in Cuprinol before applying clear penetrating epoxy sealer, (CPES), followed by full strength epoxy, then whatever finish. Body tub wood would only need the Cuprinol, and perhaps the CPES, which would make it impervious to moisture, except where compromised by fasteners. digitaldon's most recent batch of (#10 green) Cuprinol had 22.3% copper napthanate, equivalent to 2% metallic copper, and he believes this is unchanged from traditional. Hope this helps. Don TC 7993 Grand Island NY USA
