TC Supercharger

Hello All!
I want to obtain some additional power for 7423, not necessarilly
for high speed, but to comfortably keep up with traffic and better
deal with the hills and inclines in North Scottsdale. After reading
about the options such as 3/4 cam, head shaving, larger carbs, etc.,
it appears that a supercharger would be the best approach while
retaining normal drivability. However, the period repro Moss
Magnacharger kit, which seems to have received good reviews, is no
longer available from Moss. It seems they have gone through their
original production run and do not plan to have more manufactured at
this point (unless they have ten firm orders in hand...rather
unlikely). I have checked with several Moss distributors to no
avail...they would pull from Moss stock as needed. My question to
the group: does anyone know of a Moss unit "on the shelf" or
available? And are there other superchargers available that would
work on the XPAG without major modifications? I have searched on the
net and in various postings without any luck.
Thanks,
Bob Izard, TC7423

Judson made a supercharger in the 1950s and 1960s for many cars
including T types, there is a fellow in Connecticut, who rebuilds and supplies them
( when he has them) by the name of George Folchi, if you contact me off list I
will give yiou his contact information.

I purchased a restored Judson from George Folchi a number of years ago for
my '57 MGA.
A beautiful piece and gave my "A" quite a bit of scoot... I can recommend
him, quality work!

Hi Bob
Someone from the UK might help, there is a fellow in Wales that
refurbishes blower also, name is John Bibby, might be spelling the last
name wrong. Contact him, he might have something that is original for
the time period. Best of Luck Dean

G'day Joe,
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but down here I recall Judson being
somewhat of an 'only if you can't find anything else' sort of a deal.
It all stemmed from the fact that, unlike a Shorrock with the vanes
arranged and held at a precise clearance inside the chamber, the
Judson's vanes in fact were free, and were by centrifugal force allowed
to contact the chamber's surface.
All very simple in application. The downside however was a short but
merry life for
both vanes and chamber.
Reminiscences with Lynxx Engineering (Sydney) tells of a brisk trade of
repeat business honing the Judson chamber's walls and refacing the
vanes.
I have run both a Shorrock copy... Kleinig, and currently a Marshall
Nordec, with very satifying results.
Still, these days I suppose you run what you can find.
Good luck.

Hi Jeff & Bob
I would stay away from a Judson on a TC, fine for a TD, there is really
not enough space between the water pump and the radiator on a TC.
Regards Dean

Hi Bob,
I also tried to purchase a Moss supercharger and was told it was a "dead
issue". I wonder how many orders they did receive. Let me know if you get
any leads or hear any new info.
Thanks,

Dean, or anyone else who has done this,
I just bought an Italmechanica Roots style SC for my TC and am
restoring it for installation. It looks to me that there is only
enough room between the fan belt and the fan for a single belt for
the unit. I was thinking of adding a spacer to the fan moving it
about 1/2" closer to the radiator to get enough room for two belts.
Would it be better to just run one belt and leave the fan alone?

Hi Terry
Correct, you need a spacer, the Judson came with one. Buy a TD/TF
spacer, take it to a machine shop and cut about 1/3rd of it off, and
machine it back to fit. Good luck Dean

I inquired with Moss Motors on the TC Supercharger situation and was told
that they are upgrading the supercharger and will not be available for about 1
month.
