Good Morning group! Does anyone know the proper size of the screws that
hold the bell housing inspection plate in place? Thanks, Tom, TC 2850,

Tom,
I measured mine and it appears to be a Withworth 6mm x 11mm x 1.016 thread.

Rick and Tom,
The gearbox uses metric threads. You will find those inspection cover screws
are standard 6 mm x 1.0 mm pitch metric threads. There are no Whitworth
screw in the gearbox and almost none on the car.

Hello Bob,
Do you sell the wide spring washers and skinny nuts which secure
the brake drums to the hubs?
Best, David

Hi David,
No I don't. Moss appear to have them and quite reasonably priced. The studs
are 3/8" BSF. I have used 3/8" "wave washers" and standard 3/8" BSF nuts.
The wave washers have a larger OD than standard 3/8" lock washers. As long
as the wheel hub does NOT contact the nuts, no reason why you can't use
standard nuts.
Re the transmission inspection cover screws, these were originally 6.0 x
1.0 mm thread , flat head , slotted, screws
Bob Grunau.
Hello Bob,

Hi David. I use full size nuts on my brake drums.
The originals were indeed half nuts but I find they
strip too easily, are difficult to find and anyway
full size nuts do not foul the wheels so why did the
factory not use them?

*The originals were indeed half nuts ****I find they
strip too easily**** so why did the
factory not use them?
Because the short nuts only locate the drum.
They do not stop it from jumping off the car.
You need only snug the nuts up so the lock washer is compressed.
That way you don't strip them.
Best,
Ray

Hindsight tells me you are right Ray but it seems
strange to fit a special part when it wasn't
necessary. Or maybe that is hindsight too.

As far as I know C&C parts in Baarlo (the Netherlands) has them in stock. It
is a company specialised in brake-parts. They always have a stand at
Silverstone near the Octagon Club.

That's the beauty of the situation. Use what you like.
I found a lot of SAE coarse thread bolts and nuts on the TB when I first
stripped it down. Someone had a Ace store nearby....
