Scuttle top is off

Post by TMcNam4510@aol.com » Sun May 22, 2005 4:57 pm

Hey gang, I finally got the scuttle top off. Some DPO had screwed the sides to the wood, ground down the screw heads and covered it all with bodo. 20 screws! It is now obvious, after removing the scuttle and other body parts that the car has been in an accident and there is some rusted areas covered with body putty. Also he did some admirable wood patching with plywood "filets". My next questions are to do with wood parts, what are the good sources, will the new wood be correctly sized and how should I treat the new wood? I am concerned that the existing wood frame is a bit misshaped so I don't have anything but books to go by. If I purchased all of the pieces from the door pillars forward, could I just screw them together and expect a reasonably true rendition? Mike's book, TC's Forever, says he uses all brass hardware. Is it worth the effort? Is there a better choice for the padding that goes between the metal and the wood where the scuttle top meets the sides? When I finally got the top off I saw that the top of the sides are almost rusted away. As ever, thanks, Tom TC2850, disassembled. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
