How can I tell if my TC's knock-off spinners are original or repros? - Steve S - TC8975, LA, CA

Mine have the MG Logo in addition to Left and Right side stamped in the spinner. Look authentic but who really know?. Tally Ho! Thom [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Well, the originals were steel. Most of the repros are brass or bronze - although there is a fellow making them out of stainless steel in Australia....unfortunately, he is on holiday just now. Best, Ray "Morology is our profession, our ONLY profession!"

Thank you everyone for the replies. A magnet sticks to them like glue, so I guess they are originals! The reason I asked was that I will be rechroming a bunch of parts from the car and didn't want to bother with the spinners if they were aftermarket. I guess they will go into the box with the other parts next week! :) - Steve S - TC8975, LA, CA

Steve, When I had mine rechromed many years ago, the shop managed to removed all traces of logo and lettering. The chrome job was great and has stood up well, but it still upsets me that they no longer look original. You may want to ask your shop whether their process will affect the lettering. An add on to this thread - I'm just finishing my OEM knockoffs and if they are original you will probably have to re-engrave them. This is a relatively simple process if done by a professional using chisels. They must be stripped prior to engraving. Be sure you hammer, file, sand and polish the ears back to shape before you take them to the plater. Ed Pohle Squaw Valley TC5856

Exactly what IS supposed to be on the originals? Mine are in sad shape. Some are MG logo with the "undo" and some are plain MG. What, exactly, should the originals look like? Enquiring minds want to know... Ross: I still have my original knock-offs (knock-ons?) since I never assault them with copper hammers, and they have an MG octagon in the center, and engraved around the outer edge: UNDO (with arrow) and RIGHT (OFF) SIDE or LEFT (NEAR) SIDE. Check page 252 in TCs FOREVER. Richard Fritz, TC6649, Longmont Colorado USA
