Dear all,
Many thanks for your replies. I have driven previously for 50 miles without
a generator, but its nice to know that with a bit of pre-preparation I don't
need to garage the car while waiting for old TC 3 brush to be repaired. I
shall be doing a 400 mile round trip over 2 days in early June, so will report
back if it only goes 399 before stopping!
You will have realised I do need a generator even if only to hold the fan
belt for the water pump etc. I have a TC 2 brush which works fine but generates
an uncontrolled 20amps plus which means I keep it disconnected as it seems to
be frying something (smell of hot bakelite from the present regulator).
I have a correct TB Regulator (care of Stewart Penfound), a TA/TB style
ignition switch (with hi-lo charge positions care of Paddy Wilmer now being
restored by Craig Seabrook) and my 3 brush regulator under repair. Soon I hope I
can unite them all and move a little closer (not too close) to an 'authentic'
TB. Its a bit annoying (though lifesaving) that as one progresses further from
1939 everything tends to become more 'TC like'. Also incidentally perhaps I
will have recharging facilties once again!

Re: Running without a generator
BY the way, an important piece of information regarding lead acid batteries
is that they can be permanently damaged from deep discharge, which means to
below 20% state of charge. For a lot of good information on batteries, see:
