Suspension

Once again we have returned from a tour in our TC in and around the Emerald Isle and if any of you really and I mean really want to test the suspension out whilst at the same time loosening the fillings in your teeth, try a trip to Eire ! Great place , great people but boy oh boy -those roads !
We completed a short trip of about 1300 miles with some horrendous weather thrown in and the TC never missed a beat.Hood down most of the time - got wet but had fun.
For those of you with knowledge of EXU's, can anybody explain to me why Abingdon chose to rearrange the instrument panel compared to the standard TC's ? Whilst I am familiar with the rationale of the various other detail changes to suit the American market, I cannot for the life of me understand why they chose to position the horn and dipswitch immediately under the wheel rim. Not only does one catch the horn too easily on the turn but at night flicking the dip switch become a bit of a lottery. On the way home in foul weather I lost many a battle with oncoming cars who nearly burned me off the road with their xenon bulbed searchlights. Whilst our car is a standard EXU, I am searching the internet for the design of a death ray to replace the fog light - I'll show the blighters !

I envey you the trip round Ireland but I think the
horn/dipswitch problem is not just an EXU one. Is the
switch in a different position on EXUs? I find that
if cornering hard enough to need to hang on the
Brooklands wheel that it can flex just enough to take
the skin off my knuckles on the horn push or break a
nail. As for the lights problem I just don't drive at

Dear George:
Many moons ago I used to have a death ray on my Mark VII
Jaguar. It was also known as an Aircraft Landing Light-about 10,000 candle
power. Most useful for blasting Weisenheimer
high beamed tailgaters, after you slowed down to let them pass.
Tally Ho!

Hello George, Ian,
Do either of you remember those cream plastic Hella spotlights -
hugely popular with the rally crowd in the '60's - that adhered
by suction to the inside of the windscreen, and could be
swivelled to virtually any angle? I was in digs in a pub run by
a Sunbeam Alpine driving big-head who bought one just so he could
"remind" oncoming drivers to dip their main-beams (high-beams)!
There's your answer! I've seen them at Beaulieu!

George,
In case you hadn't noticed, EXUs don't have fog lights. (chuckle) Not
only do you need to find a light, but you need to figure out where to
put the switch. And enough wattage to make a difference would severely
sap the electrics.
Forget it. Let the jerks go and enjoy your life.

Hi David Lodge,
Another way is to replace the normal H4 55/60 W
bulbs against the 100 W bulbs in any light. It is not legal to use these
bulbs. They look exactly like the normal H4 bulbs. These bulbs are easily
available every where for almost the same price. But they consume 8 A to 9 A
instead of 5A . So you need a thicker conductor ( use 2 wires parallel ) and
switch/relay to handle this power. It is quite possible that the glasses get
heated and may brake in warmer temperature while stationery.
Who can recall those search lights on 1951 Plymouth or Desoto with the
control grip inside the cabin near to the steering ?

Dear Charles Hill,
Install a relay to handle the ( Current) heavy load, and
use the same switch to control the relay. It is much easier.

I have to admit, I am amazed by the evil intent of some of the listers
regarding the ability to injure other drivers with high intensity lamps.

Great idea George ...but the problem these days are
idiots who drive behind you with a million candlepower
at our eyelevel on those trucks and busses which those
with more money than sense drive nowadays. Even
mounting such a device in the rear screen would
probably enrage them enough to drive you off the road.
