TC exhaust manifold temp barrier coating..

Post by davjak@aol.com » Tue May 03, 2005 8:31 am

Fellow members, While completing an exhaust replacement, thoughts on coating the exhaust manifold by Jet Hot came up. What have my fellow members used? The original was aluminized correct? I received a quote from Jet Hot for $95.00 What have others used? Thanks, Dave Thanks for the input on the manifold to head pipe gasket options.. Hi, I've had a couple of manifolds aluminium thermal sprayed recently. The manifolds are shot blasted first to give a good key for the aluminium. The finish is I guess close to the alleged original "aluminised". It needs a coating, say a VHT paint, as the thermal sprayed surface is slightly rough, and if dirt gets into it, its difficult to clean. Can't say how well it performs yet, as the pretty manifold is waiting to go on the car. Cost was 20 per item, shotblasted and thermal sprayed. Regards, Mark TC1459 Quoting davjak@aol.com:

Dave asked: "While completing an exhaust replacement, thoughts on coating the exhaust manifold by Jet Hot came up. What have my fellow members used?" Dave, I work about 5 miles from JetHot and have had quite a bit of work done by them. I personally think the normal JetHot coating is too shiny for a normal TC exhaust manifold - it's more like chrome. JetHot does have what they call a "sparkle" coat which has been described to me as rough textured and not as slick - you might want to ask about that - or see if they'd send you a photo of each texture so you could compare. I haven't had anything "sparkle" coated yet so can't tell you from personal experience. Personally I'd try to find someone to aluminize it if I could. I had mine aluminized 12 years ago and it still looks great (place is out of business now or I'd tell you where to send yours). Gene Gillam Saucier, MS -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
