G'day With regards to headlight reflectors I had mine Chrome plated and fitted with QI bulbs, A brighter light you would not want. The chrome plater said that it was a special type of chrome. Regards Ross in Tea Gardens

Smee again I recently purchased a set of headlights for the flat lenses on them . The mountings were offset and one reflector took a single filament globe whilst the other was a solenoid operated reflector which dipped the rhs light , They are in perfect condition. Did they fit TB's or TA's Ross

Hello Roscoe, Did you experience any of the chromatic aberation with the chrome plating that Mike Sherrell mentions? Just curious. I've always thought that chrome would be a superior finish for reflectors, myself, and more durable to boot. Gentlemen, Chrome plating is NOT the way to go as it does not have the reflective properties of silver, although silver is susceptible to tarnishing, but there is a process utilizing aluminum, which is very close to silver, then sealed for a tarnish proof coating. Do it right the first time and never have to do it again. The company; UVIRA Laser Optics, P.O. Box 610, 310 Pleasant Valley Road, Merlin, Oregon 97532. Ph. 503 474 5050. U.S.A. Talk to Mr. William Atwood. I hope this information is still current. I had this done to my Tri-Pods over 20 years ago and they are still are like new. Gene Roth

Ross, according to the TA/B parts book, the N/S dipping headlight reflector ceased with TA3253 and non dipping commenced with TB0251, so it appears you have a set of TA lamps. I do not know if P and J Types had dipping lamps. Strange, but my TB0437 came a dipping reflector? Cheers! Bill Hentzen Mequon WI TB0437

Hi All- I want to second Gene's comment and the work of UVIRA. I had my TC reflectors done by them 12 years ago and they still look brand new. Jim Buell TC 9806

Bill, Both the P and J types came with permanently dipped N/S lights while the O/S light was switched off. The TA had electro-mechanically dipped N/S lights. The TB and home model TC used N/S lights with dual filament bulbs for the dipping. The O/S light was still switched off. TC export models had dual filaments in both headlights. Seems like headlights were swapped around quite a bit. A local MG club member is restoring a 35 PA and it has a TA N/S headlamp. Regards, Charles Hill Bill Hentzen wrote:

I have a TA which was imported into this country in 1937; it has conventional US headlight control. I have a friend who has a TA imported in 1938. His is the same as mine. I suspect the factory wired both lights to be per US operation. Dick Little

Dick, Maybe the factory changed the headlights, but more likely they were changed by the importer. Thats exactly what happened with the EXUs. They left the factory with non-sealed beam bulbs, but were changed by the importer to meet US regulations. If the TAs were officially imported, they were probably changed by the importer. If they were privately imported, who knows what happened. Regards, Charles Hill vze4xyru wrote:
