Petrol? Education? Another question

Hello all again;
You know as an over the road truck driver I have too much time to sit and
think about things. I have another question;
In the United States we currently refer to High Octane fuel as Premium. In
the old days it was "High Test" or "Ethel" or "Super" or something like
that. What was High Octane fuel called in England in the late 1940's?
Thanks to all who have replied thus far.
When I stop tonight I will reply to each of you individually.
Thanks again.
