Terry, Have you checked for ovality of the carburetor throat at the throttle butterfly. If the flange is distorted by excessive tightening this will make the throat dia. oval at the flange, which can transfer decreasingly to the butterfly upsetting the fit. I recently saw one carburetor with ovality of about 1 mm. at the flange. Facing the flanges won't help this situation. A new carburetor is needed ! That won't affect the mixture, however, just the ability to close completely resulting in a high idle. My carbs have this problem to a mild extent resulting in an idle around 1000 rpm. I have a set of new carbs but haven't yet installed them. Hello Alan, Not necessarily! Midel Pty. in Oz will sleeve your carbs and make all well again! Haven't used them but perhaps Murray, Reddo & co. might be able to advise? I used them and the carbs are better than new. At the time had a friend travelling between Sydney and Vancouver and his help made a big difference. Terry in Vancouver David Lodge wrote:
