Hi,
The steering balls in my TA which fit to the steering arms have straight
shanks whilst the one which fits in the drop arm has a taper shank. Are my
balls normal and, if so, why the difference?

Yes Graham your balls (steering) are fine, early balls were straight
shanked and later balls were tapered.
