To The List - I recently purchased a '46 TC and I find that the car is
missing a number of small and difficult parts to find. I'm hoping
that fellow mwebers can help me or direct me as to where I might go to
find these.
I am in search of the following:
Front right and left shocks with links and backing plates (either
rebuilt or cores that can be rebuilt)
20-0-20 amp gauge (core that I can have rebuilt)
0-160 oil pressure gauge (core that I can have rebuilt)
Dash map light
Low fuel warning lamp
Chole, starter, slow running cables
Chrome beading that surrounds wooden dash
Front head lamp "U" lenses and proper chrome trim ring
FT27 Fog
Altete Horn
Seat hinges
Seat hinge channels (attach to back of seats and accept hinge flange)
Seat back adjusting hardware - wheel arch brackets, racks, wing nuts
Upper steering column bracket that attaches column to scuttle
Choke & starter cable bracket to rear carb
Choke, starter, slow running cable cover to firewall
Slow running cable return spring, bracket, and arm
Draught excluder plate for pedal boot
Tonneau Bar (attached to rear of seat back)
Battery box cover
Gas tank sides with chrome edging
Transmission tunnel (cover)
I'm hoping to find some of these parts used to help keep the cost
down. It's a little overwhelming and I'm sure I'm missing many other
parts. These are the most noticeable at my first pass at evaluating
the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

Re: Parts Help
Rob. Some of your list is available from the usual
suppliers, though I can understand your wish to avoid
their prices. Some items will certainly be difficult
to source but some are easy to make being only mild
steel with perhaps a few bends in it. In particular
the shocker backing plates, steering column bracket
and rear carb cable carrier, battery box cover and
draught excluder plate are fairly simple to make if
you have the patterns. The clips for the cover are
freely available (try NTG who even sell them on EBAY).
Even the tonneau bar could be made if you have a
welder. I have made a transmission tunnel for a J2 but
that was a bit involved to do as it needed a simple
former made first but it is only mild steel bent and
welded or brased. Mike Sherrels book will help with
patterns for some of these. The shockers, dash lamp
and fuel lamp and tank sides may be difficult though
list members may have some of these. Try John Marks
of autojumbles for the instruments. They should not
be too difficult to find. The cables, dash
beading, seat adjusters are available from the
specialists as is the FT27 if you own a gold mine.
The horn is not too difficult as there were lots made
for all sorts of cars and bikes though they do vary a
lot. Even the fluted nuts for these are available as
I bought a new set on EBAY just a fortnight ago. The
"U" lenses are not to difficult at autojumbles though
I be a list member has some. Sorry I have not got any
of these parts Rob but I hope this helps a bit.
