Cables

Jack, Sorry, I meant to respond to the cable issue earlier. I had the same problem which I corrected by shortening the cable to its straightest and most direct route. I withdrew the inner cable and cut the outer with a Dremel tool. I also use a "P" clip which helps stabilize the end. They are easily obtainable at your local auto parts store, however, the best fit will be by making your own. Crimp a piece of sheet metal in a vise around a chunk of the cable you cut off. Hi
Whilst they all seem to work, I don't think any of the cables on my TB are actually correct, what is the difference between the starter, choke and slow running cables? As there is quite a difference in price I assume it is significant.

Starter is nothing but a pull knob and pulls back in when released via spring at the starter switch.  Pretty simple. Choke knob pulls out the same but by giving a little twist, can lock into different points to hold it open at the different points.  A little twist back and spring tension pulls the knob back in.  I had a starter cable mounted for the choke when I first bought my TC.  Had to hold the knob to keep it out.  Inconvenient but works but not original. Slow running does not pull out but threads out.  Turning the knob turns a threaded shaft and as you turn it, it pulls a solid strand of wire (not a braded cable).  Twist to set your fast idle speed to whatever you desire.  To bring the wire back in, an idle down, you twist the knob back in. Hi DaveThanks for the reply, it is much as I thought, I have got a replacement TA/TB/TC choke cable, it does not twist but does stay out though I only ever use it for starting then use the slow running to increase the tick over until warmed up. On my TB a previous owner has changed the slow running cable for a solid rod that screws through the bulkhead against a plate attached to the accelerator arm, it is simple and works well so I will probably leave it. So given the current exchange rate  of one British pound equals $1.50 (found on a Google search), the choke and slow running cables are pretty close to the same but the Moss UK starter cable is quite high (exchange rate of $112.88).    Can anyone shed light on why the relatively simple starter cable in the UK is so much more expensive?   Could it be a misprint, as I am sure manufacture suppliers are probably common on each side of the pond? It is a fairly simple, and satisfying,  job to replace the cables and keep the knobs which may well be original to the car.  For the flexible cables you can use bicycle brake cable, available very cheaply from your friendly  local bike shop. It is a long time since I did mine but, if I remember rightly, at least one has solid wire.  I used piano wire for this.  Check the diameter needed from your original and ask at a music shop.  To fix to the handle use silver solder.  The outer can also be replaced by the same method, or by just cutting off and expanding the crimped ends and re-crimping.  If I remember rightly the slow running cable is solid and revolves in a neat sort of bearing arrangement at the handle which should become clear when you dismantle it.
