Door latch shims

Guys - I've got one side of interior side panels in place. In order for the door to latch properly, I had to shim the door lock (on the door) out 0.3 inches (7.6mm). That seems to be an awful lot, but now the door closes easily and latches properly. This is on a new tub that came from England through Abingdon Spares. Don't know much about its origin, but there are lots of details that don't seem to fit right. The question - should I leave this door lock shimmed out this far, or recess the striker plate (attached to the tub) into the wood. I'm hesitant recess it in, as I would prefer to leave the wood on the front latch pillar untouched. Any opinions or suggestions? I'll be doing the passenger side Monday. Tom If you have got your door closing on to the second stop and the fit to the body is good then DON'T TOUCH IT! You have probably heard of the book - Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. I believe there is a case for a similar book entitled Zen and the Art of MG Door Latches. Many are the hours that I have spent fiddling with this area to achieve perfection and meditating on the reason for spending my time in such a way! The end product is usually a bit of old vinyl tile here or a bit of leather there until finally that distinctive sweet click is felt and heard and suddenly the reason for life is understood.
