Wiring and Harness?

Listers, Finally am able to address gauge repair for ,of all things, a TF. A trip the T-ABC suppliers yielded Nisonger, APT and Mo MA as suppliers. I did receive some disparaging remarks about dealing with MoMa but would appreciate opinions about APT and Nisonger addressing service, quality and the price/value ratio. I have eliminated going overseas until the dollar rebounds. Additionally I will need a complete wire harness for TF. Sources seem to be Moss and British Wiring for this item. I would appreciate comments both plus and minus on these sources. thanks in advance, Sherwood Parker TC, TF, Arnolt Coupe Tempe, AZ USA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Sherwood: I have used MoMa with excellent results, fast service and best of all reasonable pricing. A friend of mine used Nisonger also with good results. You may also want to contact Craig Seabrook of this list. Ken Porter TC 4147 Manchester NH SherParker@aol.com wrote:

I have had several instruments done by APT with great results. They took a Tiger tach, rebuilt it with modern guts that would work with a UniLite distributor, put a very nice face paint job on it, and sent it home in a couple of weeks. Seem like nice guys who stand behind their work. MoMa is an excellent alarm clock repair business, and Nissonger seems to take a long time. HOWEVER, for old MG's Marks is still the best guy around. My experience. Best, Ray "My brain hurts!" "It will have to come out."

Sherwood, I have had very excellent dealings with Nisonger, especially Bob Castinetta (sp?); however, when I contacted him a couple of years ago about restoring my TC instruments he stated that he did not have the capability to screen paint the instrument faces - he used decals instead. Maybe that has changed since. So, I sent my gauges to West Valley Auto Electric in Reseda, CA. They were about the same cost as Nisonger. They did a beautiful job - not cheap, however - about $1,200 for speedo, tach, oil pressure gauge, ampmeter, and separate oil temp and water temp. gauges. They met their promised delivery date, too (about 4-6 weeks). Rumor has it that the owner of West Valley used to be married to the owner of MO-MA. Hope this helps. Sherwood I have used both Moss and British wiring in the shop, Leslie is very nice and very cooperative so if you want to spend your money with a small operator she is good, as an added plus they can be creative within reason if you want to customize the harness such as having it converted to alternator or if you have a car that you want to install trafficators to she can have it done again I have no problems with Moss product. I have used Nisonger instruments for years and their pricing is very good I would give them a call and get a quote, They were a spin off from Nisongers (now owned by Moss) who were the original Smiths/Jaeger importers and stockist from about 1949 to 1990 when they were sold off, For Post War stuff they have loads of parts, they are pretty good with prewar assuming the gauges have not been stored in a bucket of water. Where should I mount my new radar detector on the TC? Windscreen folded flat and all, can't go there. Most use will be in interstates. Wouldn't want a ticket for going 10+ over the limit, you know..... PTH

Mount it on the radiator cap. That way all of the folks passing you on the Interstate can have a hearty chuckle. _Peter
