Bart & friends,
True about there being more California MGs than were ever here. My TC # 5122 (Nessie) has been in Southern California at least since I bought it in 1954. The advantages of a California car? Mostly all original wood in good condition. Left door was damaged in a pre '54 accident and should be re-wooded. The floorboards have been replaced as they had absorbed all the oil a piece of plywood can contain. There has been very little rust, just a spot under the right windscreen bracket and the front tips of the front fenders. Altogether, being a California car is a good thing (unlike being a California subject), but hard to prove.
All claims (except this one) should be taken with at least one grain of salt.

Hello you all,
Many thanks to those of you who pointed me to Bob Mendelsohn or informed him.
Bob contacted me and now we know a lot more of the USA history of TC8204. Even up to the owner before Bob got hold of it. It's a Californian TC. So much is almost certain. Nowadays, all US cars we see advertised here, are "Californian". Back in 1995 things were much more honest in that respect. Bob got his TC from a TC-shop in San Jose. And the previous owner of TC8204 also lived in California. So, it is likely to be a true Californian car.
The good state of the chassis sure looks like that.
Ok, Please check my next question in this group. It's about the first years of TC8204, most likely British years, being a "home" version.
Cheers!

A much better source of information may be https://ttypes.org database.  The MGCC T Register do not maintain that online database anymore.  Check out http://ttypes.org/database/TC8204 instead.

The MGCC T Register updates its database of known T Types regularly.
It has three Registrars who scour online and offline sources for updated and new information on cars to upload to the online database.
Over this winter the T Register s online database of factory records will be updated and will include a field to indicate where the original paper records show anomalies.
