Hopefully this message gets to you quickly since you are on the side of the road.  Since this event happened suddenly, I am restricting comments to electrical only and assume you don't have access to a garage. First, do you have spark? Pull high tension lead from center disrtibutor tower and hold 1/4" away from ground. Observe spark or lack there of.  If have spark, rotor or inside distributor dirty or faulty ground inside distributor. No spark, check primary (12v wiring) to the coil (white wire), lastly, bad coil. Any new 6v or 12v coil may get you home, then purchase proper coil. IMPORTANT: Before removing points or condenser, ensure the condenser mounting plate is well grounded. Remove and clean the two little plate mounting screws and retighten.Hopefully, you are already back on the road.Tim Bloomfield Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Run out of gas?Is gas flowing upstream of the fuel pump?Are the carburetor float bowls full? No spark?Is there a spark at the sparkplug?Is the battery still connected?  Is the ground wire still connected?Do the lights work?Does anything happen when the starter switch is pulled?Does the engine turn over?Need to go step by step to see where flow of electricity stops.I once lost power at the side of the road to find out the nut holding the points together was missing.  Put a new nut on from an extra points set I always carry.  Started the engine and drove away.I am also having a problem with the starter switch on my Triumph TR4A. (no power at all when the ignition switch is activated). Loose connection at the powered wire from the starter solenoid to switch. These are simple engines and will generally run if supplied with a spark and gas (petrol). If it stopped abruptly I'd look first for a spark (or lack thereof) by taking out a spark plug and resting it on the block or other grounded part of the engine, and with the ignition on slowly turning the engine over with the handle. You should be able to hear the spark and have someone look at the plug electrodes to see it. If you're not getting a spark, are you getting electrons to the ignition system? The switch has been known to fail, also the coil. A voltmeter on the various connections should tell you this. If power is coming to the distributor, if the system is mechanical, are the points opening and closing? The mounting plate may have come loose. I had a friend call by the other day in his beautiful 1933 Austin 10 and when he went to leave it wouldn't fire.   After buggering about for half an hour or so and coming to the conclusion the ign. switch 'must' have given up the ghost, we hot-wired it just to get the thing going so he get home.  He rang an hour later to tell me it was the 35amp main fuse that had blown!  So much for checking the simple things first.  Tweed.
