Door handle position question

Post by jabawok1 » Tue Apr 30, 2019 7:42 am

Dear group members, I am in the position of needing to make/convert a TC door as I find I have one TC door and one TA door. Before proceeding with this I need to check that my TC door is in fact correct. Please could someone check the position of their outer TC door handle with reference to a line perpendicular to the front edge of the door and passing through the centre of the handle. I have several TA doors and the door handles are 10" from the highest point of the door (where it meets the dash). I have only one TC door and the handle is 9" from the highest point of the door. The maximum height of the TC door, at 19.75", also appears to be 0.5" less than the TA doors. Could some kind person with both a TA and TC please confirm these figures for me?

I'll be interested in the results. From my experiences over many years dismantling, building, and rebuilding TABC bodies, anything within 1/2 inch is normal. Frame timbers vary a lot, and I suspect that as the bodies were delivered with doors on, then as long as things on that body lined up OK, there was not much concern over whether it was exactly the same as the batch made 6 months ago. The TA and TB doors do have less of a longitudinal bend than TC ones however to deal with the slightly wider TC bodies. Hi John,,

I found the following:

TA0652, 1936, center of door handle to peak of door where it meets scuttlle peak = 10-1/4 , both sides.

I have other doors, but not sure if TA/TB or TC.

Red TC= 9-1/2

Black TC= 9-1/2

Sequoia TC= 9-1/2

So looks like TC door handle location is is about higher for the door handle than the TA,

I could not quite figure out your reference perpendicular line??

Does this make me a kind person ??

Hi Bob,

Thanks, it does indeed make you a kind person.

The sketch attached shows the reference I was after. Please excuse my drawing, I am a little out of practice and MS paint does not seem to be what it used to be.

Does this change any of your figures for the dimension A?

How do the dimensions B compare please?

Many thanks,

John
