Hello Mark, When I restored my TA 10 years ago there was no evidence of a return spring. I have had to rebuild the clutch recently and checked on this exhaustively. There is no return spring. What is important is to make sure there is one inch free play of the pedal after everything is set up. I modified the locking mechanism slightly (photo) by adding an extended nut to go inboard of the brass cylinder to lock it once the one inch clearance is achieved via the long rotating nut outboard on the shaft. This is very similar to the arrangement supplied by Octagon with their replacement shaft assembly. I used an old rusty manifold nut, drilled it through and tapped it then filed down one half to clear the yoke of the clutch operating lever. So far so good. Kind regards,

Might anyone have a photo of the correct set up for a TA clutch pedal return spring? With the clutch release rod on the TA instead of the TC chain is the spring set up different? Thanks, Mark O DayTA 2335
