Hello Ben, Interesting: my front axle shows no sign of a four-digit number; only some illegible indentations which I believe should face the rear of the car. Car is very original, and all numbers, features, etc. match. Makers plate number matches the number on the front chassis dumb iron, and the engine is the original one. However when rebuilding the front axle, we found the number 9194 stamped on it (see attached photo, unfortunately, it s upside down). We cannot find any reference to this number anywhere and are wondering if anyone else in the group has found a similar number on a front axle.
