The horn and fog light are in the correct position for cars driven in the States.  The grey scuttle I m not sure about but if they could screw up the mileage by 16,000 miles I don t doubt they could screw up the car # also. It s hard to tell from the photos what the engine color is but the side cover is grey...and weren t early engine valve covers shiny (this one is)? Gene Gillam Saucier, MS Sent from my iPhone

Can anyone provide information on the source of the (non-EXU) bumpers? Did Abingdon manufacture these or are they (American) aftermarket? Bob BrennanS. Freeport, METC7794EXU

More than half of TC production had the olive-drab scuttle. The color change occurred around the time the scuttle went from deep-flute pressings to shallow pressings - approximate, early 1948. The bumpers are a dealer supplied item, made from truck spring leafs (so the story goes) and they had pretty substantial steel brackets. TCpeTe

The springs were supplied by spring & brake shops. Made from spring steel stock. I remember watching a bumper being fabricated for a Packard (if memory is correct). It was a cross between watching a glassblower make a beautiful object and watching a ferrier make a horseshoe. It was quick and affordable to produce the raw bumper. The customer took over to provide the chrome and paint. Dan Harmer San Diego '48 TC # 5122   More than half of TC production had the olive-drab scuttle. Guys,

Hope this helps zero in on changes:

I bought my 4926 in '54 or '55, car built in spring of '48 and am second owner. The car was imported by Inskip and came with their proprietary f/r bumpers ( 43" long x 2.5" width, 1/4" thick) any sheet metal shop could easily duplicate these and their brackets.

1. Scuttle has deep flutes (1.50")

2. Scuttle, body color

3. Dash Rexine covered

4. Inst. panel: presently bright metal, likely I removed black finish when re-painted in early '60's

5. Offside of batt. box has unused 5mm hole fwd. of regulator on same axis as reg. cap clip

6. Inside of scuttle & firewall back to front of doors is painted Fawn as hood/top stays.

7. Engine color: don't recall, but still have original sheet metal steel pressing.

More than half of TC production had the olive-drab scuttle. The color change occurred around the time the scuttle went

from deep-flute pressings to shallow pressings - approximate, early 1948. The bumpers are a dealer supplied item, made from

truck spring leaf's (so the story goes) and they had pretty substantial steel brackets.

Can anyone provide information on the source of the (non-EXU) bumpers? Did Abingdon manufacture these or are they (American) aftermarket?

The horn and fog light are in the correct position for cars driven in the States.  The grey scuttle I m not sure about but if they could screw up the mileage by 16,000 miles I don t doubt they could screw up the car # also.

It s hard to tell from the photos what the engine color is but the side cover is grey...and weren t early engine valve covers shiny (this one is)?

The gray scuttle is a problem, isn't it?
