I thought I d find the picture of my diff bearing as it came out of the diff, This car had done 98,000 between November 1949 and 1968 when it was laid up for the next 48 years.

RED LINE Synt  Gear oil - GL 4- is the better choice for our TC

Evitare assolutamente 

 

Penrite GB40 oil used by Norman, can be the second choice 

 

In the past FORD used Red line oil on T5 gearbox - NO OIL DRAIN  on this gearbox-

FORD considered this oil sufficient to cover the car life

What is the latest thinking on the best oil for the TC gearbox? 

 

At one time (in the days of Skip Kelsey and Shadetree Motors) it was Redline.  Redline Gearoil was supposed to the the "be all and end all."   It would make shifting easier and make it shift smoother, etc.  So I tried it.   I felt no improvement in my particular gearbox.

 

I am doing some long overdue service which includes gearbox oil change and installation of a magnetic plug.

 

What would you recommend and what weight and what GL number (GL4 or GL5) for the TC in the Arizona desert?
