Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
Attachments :Anyone know the distance between the wheels of a TC by chance?
Mine is stored an hour away at the moment. I'm planning on purchasing a 4 post lift for my new house and need to make sure it'll fit as I'm doing my initial research.
I also plan on storing my '66 442 under the TC. So super narrow car up top, and super wide one below..... I may not find a lift that will fit those needs.
Thanks
Mike

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
According to the brown book, the track is 3' 9". A single post lift is infinitely adjustable for width, and has no restrictions on the width of the vehicle stored below. They do cost more however. See here for details: http://www.mgnuts.com/autolifts/

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
Yes, I read that. I'm concerned about the strength of the garage floor for a single post lift. Probably not a big deal for the mg, but if I ever have to put one of my other vehicles on it I'm concerned.

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
Floor requirements for most single and 2-post lifts are 2,500-3,000 PSI compression and 4" thick with rebar. The single post lift will stand on its own with a car loaded, without being bolted in. Not safe in an earthquake however! There are also single post models that can be rolled around with a car on them. Reports of their safety are mixed. If you want to go with a single or two post lift, you can always cut a square from the garage floor and pour a new section under where the lift will be. This is a fairly common practice. There are also lift manufacturers who will make a custom lift, so you can probably get a standard width and have the ramps placed farther in than normal, if necessary.

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
would it not be better with the wide car on top giving more space below?

Subject: [mg-tabc] Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
Anyone know the distance between the wheels of a TC by chance?
Mine is stored an hour away at the moment. I'm planning on purchasing a 4 post lift for my new house and need to make sure it'll fit as I'm doing my initial research.
I also plan on storing my '66 442 under the TC. So super narrow car up top, and super wide one below..... I may not find a lift that will fit those needs.
Thanks
Mike

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
Steve,Good description. However, you say Power options normally include 110 or 220 volts. Either will work fine, but 220 will raise your lift faster and is more energy efficient. How is it more energy efficient?? Power is power in watts of kilowatts??BobTC8654EXU From: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com [mailto:mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Steve S mail@mgnuts.com [mg-tabc]

According to the brown book, the track is 3' 9". A single post lift is infinitely adjustable for width, and has no restrictions on the width of the vehicle stored below. They do cost more however. See here for details: http://www.mgnuts.com/autolifts/

Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
As it has been described to me, using 220 takes half the amps of 110 and as a result the motor can run more efficiently. I can't explain the physics behind it but the lift time is supposed to faster and therefore less run time. This is from the lift manufacturers I spoke with years ago when selecting my own lifts.

Steve, Good description. However, you say Power options normally include 110 or 220 volts. Either will work fine, but 220 will raise your lift faster and is more energy efficient. Re: Tracking width of a TC (for a 4 post lift)
The physics are very simple. 220 takes just as much power because two circuits are being used. 110 uses one circuit.
If a 220V version (of say the motor to run the hyd. pump for a car lift) will be rated at 7 amps, while the (different motor) of the 110 version is rated at 10 amps. Yet they describe the 220V setup as quicker and more powerful. That is because the 110V version uses 10 amps from one circuit, while the 220V uses 7 amps X 2 for a total of 14 amps. Duncan-TC9866ex

Hi Steve,
As it has been described to me, using 220 takes half the amps of 110
-Agreed. That is true. However, P=IV. ie P ( power in watts ) = I ( amps) x V ( volts ) . So double the Voltage and you halve the amps, but power, or watts/kilowatts, remains the same .
Your electric bill or usage depends on kilowatts used.
and as a result the motor can run more efficiently.
Maybe, but -I doubt it.
I can't explain the physics behind it but the lift time is supposed to faster and therefore less run time.
-well the lift time depends entirely on the motor speed and gear reduction in the drive train.
