Brooklands steering wheel and aero screens etc.

All,

My Moss Brooklands steering wheel hub fractured and would not tighten. I just didn’t bother getting in touch with them as I bought it 3 years ago although it’s only been in use for just over 2 years.

New hubs are advertised at 160 plus VAT so I spent some time tracking down the manufacturer. I found John Kimber of Kimber Engineering who asked me to post it too him to see if his hub would fit. He spent some time “fettling” his so it would fit and posted the old and new one back. Price was 60 plus postage. I sent it last Saturday and got the new one yesterday (Thursday).

Excellent service for a quality made part at the right price.

I’ve no connection other than being a very satisfied customer.

I use #90 or #140 EP gear oil, same STEERING BIX, GARBOX AND DIFFERENTIAL.

Don’t forget a few drops of engine oil in the generator rear lubricator .

I am in the midst of cleaning and refurbishing my tac reduction box.  Some idiot (me) loaded it with chassis grease and it (thankfully) managed to work itself off the generator; else I suspect the would be nice shiny nubs where the gear teeth once meshed.

My stupidity aside, does anyone have a recommendation for the “gear oil” the Book notes?  And any other thoughts?

Many Thanks,

_Peter

I had the opposite problem with a cracked outer rim so John made me a new one with the spokes so that I could use my original hub. I was also able to buy individual pieces for my racing screens, including the glass. A great guy to work with.
