MotoMeter Installtion

Hi, I am installing a Boyce MotoMeter into the MGTC Rad Cap & want to make sure that I have the black rubber seal (disc) in the correct position. Should it go between the Rad Cap & the MotoMeter or on the underside of the Rad Cap with the Brass Nut tighten up against it?  (to me it makes sense to have it on top of the cap)....I have seen the rubber disc installed both ways! Also, which ‘face side’ of the meter should be toward the driver? There seems to be much controversy on this as well.

I installed the rubber disk on the top side of the cap. I also installed the meter with the disk with the round hole in to the front of the car capillary tube to the rear and visible to the rear. That way you can watch the temp rise. Mine also has a narrow angle of view so Ii (driving) can see the red line while the passenger can not. May just be a quirk of mine (a reproduction). Installed this way for about 20 years now.

Ron, The old geezers hang the thermometer so it faces the driver. Try seeing how hot the engines while pulling a tall hill. You'll land flat on your face while stepping out! The guy in front of you could care less what temp your running. I like the rubber under the meter as it is the most positive seal. The other way it can seep up the stud.Chip The wise guy.
