When I replaced mine, I installed the leaf springs with the tube ends loosely fitted before welding them, to determine where they "preferred" the slot to go. I think I rotated them just a few degrees clockwise from straight horizontal in order to slide the spring end in place without having the bend the spring too much. Hopefully I did this correctly because they are welded in place now!

I totally rebuilt, restored my '39 TA suspension and you saying you WELDED the leaf springs in place sounds INSANE to me!!! What would you weld? Why on earth would you weld? Post a picture or two. . .. . this sounds crazy. Dennis Nelson1939 MG TATA3074

Sincere apologies for the misunderstanding. . . no springs were welded or harmed in the making of my car. I was referring to the steel chassis extension trunion repair tubes, which were welded in place once they were in the correct orientation. If my pictures come through, you can see what I started with, and how I fitted the replacements. It must have been a wild ride the last time my car was on the road because they just bolted a metal plate top and bottom to sandwich the leaf springs in what remained of the trunnion tubes!

I should also mention that I used a piece of steel bar placed through the hole where the leaf spring would pass, then used blocks on either and and a level (with the chassis also on level) to find true level. Be aware, this was not the final position before welding, because when I test fitted the leaf springs, the angle required slight adjustment. I made witness marks with a punch when I was satisfied with the position, and then performed the weld. Be sure to "Vee" out the joint so you get good weld penetration because it's pretty thick there. A grinder does wonders to blend it all together!

left side checking level, before I relaized it was not the final position.
