Dashboard panel lights

I am restoring the dashboard of TC2456 and cannot understand how the tacho and speedo are illuminated at night.
I have two bulbholder brackets on the back of the centre dash panel (but no bulbholders etc) but I don't appear to have any fittings at all for the large instruments.
Can someone explain how this works, and maybe add a photo or two so I know what I need to do.
Many thanks,
Roger

Hi Roger,Attached two images that may assist you regards the TC lampholders, My TC I believe has four that are screwed direct to the wooden dash panel. They are mounted one each side of the Speedometer and one each side of the Tachometer. I believe they are in series with the wiring lamps for the Oil pressure and Ammeter. You will need to research exact positions as my effort here in from memory.Regards Mike Bate.TC10200 - Fine evening, Cornwall. UK.

Many thanks, Peter, Norman and Mike for your lightening response,
That is exactly what I needed to find out and now I can get it sorted.
I have often wondered why nothing happened when I operated the panel light switch - now I know - just another shortcut taken by the 1980s restorer!
Best wishes,
Roger

I have a couple of spare holders, so I'll get the old dash down from the top of the garage and screw the holders in the holes that were there. It's not the original dash, so they might not be in exactly the same place as they were in 1946, but there aren't too many options where to put them anyway. I put an extra one each for the speedo and tacho for a bit more illumination as it's not easy to see the black pointer. The thought did cross my mind to paint them both white, but I think that would have been a step too far!

I can't do it tonight as I'm out, but I'll do it tomorrow and get some pics off to you.

Many thanks, Roger

Roger, Attached are photos of the rear of my TA dash showing bulb holders etc, relative to the rear cutouts in the dash for the speedo and rev counter. The dash itself was new so I cannot guarantee the bulb holders are in the correct (factory) positions, but personally I don t see that it matters as they are all out of sight. BTW I made up extended LED bulbs to fit as the standard is worse than glow worms. There are numerous other alternative illumination ideas on the TABC forum, and Bob Butson wrote about his equivalent in TTT2. Even now I carry a small torch in the driver door pocket to check the dials on very dark nights! Plus an illuminated & audible alarm for low oil pressure (see TTT2 as well). In the dark it looks black.
