King Pin Bushes

Post by p.cole@ntlworld.com » Mon Jul 22, 2002 1:07 pm

Hi there, Don't try to ream king pin bushes with an adjustable reamer, it's impossible to set it accurately enough. Use a standard reamer. IMHO the best way to do the job is in a lathe with the reamer in the headstock, and with the stubaxle centred using a mandrel held in the tailstock. With this set up the stub axle is simply pushed onto the reamer and both bushes are reamed (or is it reamered ?)one after the other, and are guaranteed to be in line.

For the best fit find a shop old fashioned machine shop with a Sunnen hone (same as con rod hone but hone itself is longer) you will get the sweetest fit ever on these kingpins. Joe Curto [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
