Depends on what the "job" is. Avon Tourists are perfectly good for general purpose touring. Clive is correct that they are not a sports tire, but if like so many T-Type owners these days you don't often drive in a "sporting manner", you don't need the Avon Turbospeeds he recommends. And when I say "sporting manner", I mean REALLY sporting. I used 6:00 X 16 Avon Tourists tires on a YA Saloon daily driver back in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Ask anyone who was a passenger in that Q-Ship about driving in a sporting manner. The Avon Tourists did a pretty good job, but a stickier compound would have been better. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. Would have been better for the way I drove that YA Saloon, and might be better for the way you drive, Clive. However the way I see a lot of T-Types driven these days, they could have the hardest rubber compound ever used in a tire and the owners wouldn't notice anything amiss. My point was that Avon Tourists are probably fine for most drivers. Use Turbospeeds if you need more grip, but don't waste your money on them if you don't need the grip. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G.
